Genoa motorway collapse - My experience
Yesterday the news have been filled with the tragedy that happened in Genoa. 100 metres of a bridge collapsed, at least 35 died as they crashed 40 metres into the deep. For me it was crazy to hear about this incident, because I’ve been travelling to this beautiful city only one year ago.
Why all four lanes of the “Autostrada” collapsed is yet to be discovered, for me the genovese streets looked like you’d imagine them to be in Italy: Narrow in the old town, dirty in the outskirts and generally not in the best conditions. Apart from that the city is one of the most remarkable ones Italy has to offer. There’s no single characteristic building like the Colosseum in Rome or the Cathedral in Milano, but the architecture in general makes Genoa so individual.
Around Genoa all the way down the Cinque Terre you’ll also find some of the best beaches the west coast of Italy has to offer. In my opinion, these are at least at the level of the more popular ones in Caorle, Grado or Rimini, but I promise you won’t find more than 3 lanes of sunbeds there!
There are many more attractions to explore in Genoa, f.e. the Lighthouse, the Aquario or the Port, and you can find out more about them in my detailed Genoa Travel Guide:
I’m hoping for all the people in Genoa that’ve been affected by this tragedy this won’t ever happen again and many more travelers will discover the beauty of this city.
