The most German thing ever!

Hola Steemit!

So, In Germany people have garbage bins. There are different sizes that you can order from the county. The sizes are measured in liter. 60 liter, 80 liter, etc. There isn’t much you can do about the size of the bin. You pick the one you need. You pay for your bin and not for how much waste you put inside.

But that doesn’t hold a true German from measuring how many liter really fit in the bin. The true German, lets call him Fritz, takes a measuring cup of 1 Liter and counts how often he can put 1 liter water inside the bin. Fritz of course doesn’t do it once, but twice or three times, just to be absolutely sure and correct. And if the number does not correspond with the liters of the bin, the true German is going to complain. Not just complaining but eventually filing a law suit. Why? Because it is not correct. How dare them to say it's a 60 liter bin if it doesn’t fit 60 liter. And for his heroic work, Fritz will get airtime on the German TV or some German press cover.

Here are three real world examples for Fritz in the German media.

You can see the 60 liters on the bin.

And his first measurement said: Only 54 liters instead of 60. Perhaps he was wrong?

So to be sure he didn’t make a mistake he’s going to measure a second time.

And then a third. And fourth. And a fifth.

And after Eberhard was 100% sure, he wrote a letter to the Eichamt asking them to confirm his measurement. The Eichamt in Germany is the institution that controls the measures. Like the Office of Weights and Measures in the UK or the Bureau of Standards in the USA.

The Eichamt in Leipzig repeats the process in their lab and confirms Eberhard's measurements. Now he can form a proper complaint to the county. Eberhard has to fight for his right… to put more junk in his rubbish bin.

You can see the full video in German national TV here: Eberhard and his rubbish bin.

Edit III:
Some (of course Germans *wink) mentioned that the letter of the Eichamt actually says:

The bin holds 54.25 liter
The lid holds 6 liter
Which is according to Adam Riese (if you’re German you will understand that expression, otherwise you can Google it) 60.25 liter.

Nobody really fills the lid. It feels a bit unfair to account the lid.
In the linked video Eberhard mentions that the 80 liter bin actually holds 83 liter. Yes, of course he measured that as well. Which seems unfair too if his 60 liter bin only holds 54.

So Eberhard’s quest for justice and correctness is still absolutely legit.

And here is the third: A loyal German from Garbsen:
