Sweatcoin Get Paid To Get Fit

in #get7 years ago

For the last 1days, I’ve been running an app on my phone called Sweatcoin. This app counts your steps, and in return, you are rewarded with a certain amount of “sweatcoins” which can be spent on real life goodies! Today I’m bringing you my full review of this app. Let’s jump straight in.

How does it work?

Sweatcoin’s primary function is to count your steps. The app determines your number of steps using the GPS and motion sensors built into your smartphone. After a little while, the steps you make outside will be converted into an in-app currency called “sweatcoins”. The conversion rate is 1000 outside steps = 0.95 sweatcoins. Once you’ve accumulated enough of them, these sweatcoins can be spent on various different goodies presented within the offers page of the app. The main incentive is that you get more sweatcoins when you walk more, so you are essentially being paid to get fit - what’s not to love?

It’s worth bearing in mind that only the outside steps will be converted to sweatcoins, so pacing around the house won’t earn you much. There is a slight level of complexity in the way your steps are converted. By day 5 I had realised that only the first 5000 steps were being converted into sweatcoins and this is because I’m on the lowest tier (which is free). If you want to convert more than 5000 steps on a daily basis, you’ll need to buy one of the higher tiers. I know what you’re thinking, but no… You pay for higher tiers using the sweatcoins you’ve already earnt, so you never need to pay a single penny for using this app.
What can you buy with sweatcoins?

Once you’ve accumulated enough sweatcoins, you can exchange them for goodies in the offers section of the app. These goodies are usually related to health and keeping fit, but there can be exceptions. The offers are updated daily so if you use the app it’s worth checking back frequently to see if there’s something which catches your eye. Some of the goodies cost a lot of sweatcoins, so you’ll need to save up for a few weeks or months depending on how active you are.

If you’d rather not spend your sweatcoins on goodies, you can send them to your friends. I can imagine this being useful if your friend just needs a few more sweatcoins to get something. Inviting friends to the app with your unique URL will also earn you 5 sweatcoins, which isn’t to be dismissed. To put that into perspective, I earnt about 12 sweatcoins in 5 days of using the app, but I would have earnt a lot more on the 14th June if was on a higher tier which converted more than 5000 steps.

In theory, you can also donate your sweatcoins to charity, but I couldn’t find this anywhere in the app. A quick e-mail to the highly-responsive support team confirmed that this isn’t currently possible but they plan on getting it working in the future.F32CF222-1207-4EC3-A734-57E34C743400.png
