Steemit has user levels, depending on how much Steem you have vested in Steem Power. At the moment 1 million "vests" cost 487 Steem. You can check the number at https://steemdb.com.

If you follow @arcange you can keep track of daily statistics about Steem, including user distribution and levels.

A "Red Fish" user is someone between 0.1 and 1 MV, a "Minnow" is someone between 1MV and 10MV, a "Dolphin" has between 10MV and 100MV, an "Orca" has between 100MV and 1000MV, and a "Whale" has above 1000MV.

Basically even just having 487 Steem puts you in the top 5,600 accounts on the Steem blockchain, that's out of 450,000 total accounts. That's like the top 1.25 % of all accounts! It's a pretty good place to be in, and can be bought for a very low price. That's now though. Once the Steem price goes 10x it will be much harder for most people to even reach that level.

Thanks a lot for this! I guess my question is, other than being able to say you're a "minnow," or that you're in the top 1.25% of accounts, is there any other benefit to having 1 MV? Or is it just "bragging rights?"

It's the voting power and influence on the platform, so you have a better chance of your voice being heard. I look at it as reserving a seat for the future. It's really very easy to get an account in the top 1% now, but as the price goes up the gaps between the levels will be much harder to bridge.

Took your advice, man! ;)

That's awesome dude! Steem is so cheap now, it's insane considering all the things that are going on with this platform, and it's real world use and potential.

It also helps the platform when more users have a stake. It makes Steemit more decentralised. The mega whales and Steemit Inc hold the vast majority of Steem Power, and more people powering up, even if it's only small sums, will help to balance that out.

Yeah man, I want more haha. Can't sell my NEO though :P Had to ditch some Lisk for this power up. Lisk won't be going up significantly until February anyway I don't think, so I figured why not. Guess I'll just be PoBing it for a while I think.

I think Steem is one of the most undervalued projects out there. When it was released a year ago it was the number 3 cryptocurrency. Its market cap now is still under what it peaked at in July 2016, after the whole cryptocurrency market went up 20x! I really think Steem will go up past $10 minimum, probably up to $100 at some point in the future.

My goal is to be a dolphin before that happens, and I'm nearly there. But I'll stop accumulating once I get to that point and look at other projects. I'm racking my brains now thinking what to buy next! I was thinking about Lisk too, looks like a great project, and once they announce the rebranding I'm sure it will go up a lot. I really like the coins @haejin picks, especially Verge and Zen, and Bitshares, but I've not got any yet, still thinking!

I watched the recent Lisk conference in it's entirety. They announced the rebranding date as February 2018. Also Redpulse is being listed on like 2 new exchanges this coming week :P. I really like the coins that pay dividends so I am in NEO and QTUM, as well as OMG, TenX and some others.
