Not Your Traditional Picture Challenge
Most of us spend time taking pictures of exotic locations. I myself am guilty of only taking the camera out on vacations and leaving the it to collect dust the rest of the time. I want to challenge folks to enjoy the beauty in their own backyard. Explore a little closer to home or take a day trip to some nearby. I call this challenge #exploreyourstate.
Recently i did just that. I gassed up and hit the road taking a scenic four hour drive to reach my destination. Upon reaching said destination i discovered the Glade Creek Grist Mill in Babcock State Park, WV. Glade Creek Grist Mill in a fully functional mill completed in 1976. Today, it grounds cornmeal. The mill is replica of mill called Cooper's Creek (although the location has changed slightly), and the water wheel comes from Spring Run Grist Mill which burned save for the water wheel.
Winter is amazing time to visit the mill. The ordinarily hustle and bustle that accompanies the peak season visitation months turns to a secluded oasis, save one or two photographers courageous enough to brave the brisk air. You can rent cabins here during peak season, but in the winter the cabins lay empty.
I am sure i will be venturing back during the warmer months to have more time to explore the area and compete with several more photographers for the best shot.
Beautiful shot :) The building gives it a great feel!
