My hometown
The town named Oslavany lies in the South Moravian district, 25 km south-west from Brno. It has around 4,600 inhabitants. A part of the town is a village called Padochov. The mayor of the town is Vít Aldorf. The town is called portal to Moravian-Bohemian Highlands. The square of December 13th is in the middle of Oslavany. Few shops are situated here. On the other side there were houses, but they were destroyed because of building-up a bridge. Now there is a new part of square. On the square is also a statue. The town lies on river Oslava. Villages in the neighbourhood are Čučice, Zakřany, Lukovany, Ivančice, Neslovice and Nová Ves.
The settlement is dated by archeologists with the first mention from the year 1104. In the year 1225 there was the oldest woman monastery in Moravia created. In the years 1783-1973 they inhabitants extracted coal there, which was giving the most the work to live.
