Reaching your goals

Background
The year has just started and a lot of people have set a couple of goals they want to reach this year.

Why is it that people always set these goals at the beginning of a new year? Why don´t you start today? Why didn`t you start yesterday?

The answer is simple.

You are afraid of achieving these goals. You are caught in your comfort zone - because comfort dose feel good - doesn´t it?

Get out of your comfort zone. Start today!

However, I don´t promise you that you will reach your goals immediately.

Starting achieving goals
Start with small goals.

Start with something like: Today I will get up at 7 a.m. instead of sleeping in. Or: Today I will drink 1.5 litres of water.

Why start small? Because it is difficult to get out of your comfort zone. You have lived your entire life in that comfort zone.

You want to aim for running a marathon. Of course you will achieve that too. But, start with baby steps.

Once you realize that it gives you this kick that you have just achieved one of your goals you will want more. It is like a drug - the only difference it doesn´t destroy your body - it makes you stronger and armed for all other difficulties in life.

How to structure
You don´t know how to achieve higher and greater goals?

I am a friend of To-Do lists or just writing down what you want to achieve. It helps you visualize the goals set out by you. By writing down these goals you signalize your brain that this is not just a thought. No! It is someting you really want. It also helps you to pin this goals somewhere you see it.

Still doesn´t help?
Then try speaking out your goal: I will run 10k today. Speak it out every morning and evening. You will see at some point you will actually believe it and embody it.

This step didn´t help either?
Start discussing your goals with your friends and family. Hear their feedback. Make something real out of your thought.

Last but not least
You have tried all the steps above and still didn´t reach your goal? Then start directly at the beginning with step 1: start with a small goal: "I will get up at 7 a.m.", "I will get up early and not sleep in". With these small goals you can extend your goals and then at some point you will run your marathon.

Last word
Why is it that we want to reach goals? Because we are human. Every human being wants to make sense to their life. And wants to develop. Because this lies in our nature - it is our evolution. This is what leads to invention - not being stuck in time.
