Is religion just superstition with a handbook?
As for religion, you’d have to be a fool, or indoctrinated as a child or have a very poor understanding of critical thinking.
Religion is merely superstition with a handbook. We are predisposed to superstitious belief.
Not all are equal, the Flying Spaghetti Monster or the church of latter day dudes are harmless and no one has harmed in their name. The same can’t be said for Christianity, Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehovah witness or Islam.
Violence aside, all religion bar the satirical, contribute to scientific ignorance and scientific illiteracy.
It teaches you compliance via social popularity, it teaches you to be happy with illegitimate answers to this world.
It’s true, many atheists are angry with the religious community. As I am too. But violence isn’t the answer.
Mental boxing is.
Atheists and religious folk alike need to learn the art of debate, we need to learn the art of recognising logical fallacies and awareness of our own cognitive, political and cultural biases. We need to understand and rely on rigorously scrutinised evidence and the ability to change our minds given sufficient and credible evidence.
Religious folk are both good and bad at heart, so are atheists. We need to understand that religion is just a tool for justification and to warm our fuzzy feelies when we’re sad or facing adversity..
It is a superstition indeed! Nice post :)
Thanks mate!
