MARTIAL LAW IN PHILIPPINES

This article is about several periods of Martial law in the Philippines. For Ferdinand Marcos' declaration of Martial law, see Proclamation No. 1081. For Rodrigo Duterte's declaration of Martial law in Mindanao, see Proclamation No. 216.

Martial law in the Philippines (Filipino: Batas Militar sa Pilipinas) refers to several intermittent periods in Philippine history wherein the Philippine head of state (such as the President) places an area under the control of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and its predecessor bodies. Martial law is declared either when there is near-violent civil unrest or in cases of major natural disasters, however most countries use a different legal construct like "state of emergency".!Typically, the imposition of martial law accompanies curfews, the suspension of civil law, civil rights, habeas corpus, and the application or extension of military law or military justice to civilians. Civilians defying martial law may be subjected to military tribunals (court-martial).

Martial law declared its because of the local terrorist which called the "Maute Group". The Maute group ([mɐʔutɪ] or [mɐʔute̞]), also known as the Islamic State of Lanao, was a radical Islamist group composed of former Moro Islamic Liberation Front guerrillas and foreign fighters led by Abdullah Maute, the alleged founder of a Dawlah Islamiya, or Islamic state based in Lanao del Sur, Mindanao, Philippines.[4][5][6][7] The group, which a Philippine Army brigade commander characterized as terrorist,[8] had been conducting a protection racket[7] in the remote settlements of Butig, Lanao del Sur. It had clashed on several occasions with Armed Forces of the Philippines troops, the most significant of which began in May 2017 and culminated in the Battle of Marawi.

He said the terrorists were trying to escape with the hostages when they were shot by government troops. Hapilon was hit in the chest area, while Maute was hit by a sniper in his head, Año said.confirmed-death-isnilon-habilon-omar-maute.jpg.
