Sunsets with a predator of the ocean

in #goldenhourphotography7 years ago (edited)

I have mentioned in previous posts that you can get too attached to ‘your’ whales & this whale is by far one that I was attached to. His name was Doublestuf aka J34. A member of J pod, which is one of three pods that make up the Southern Resident Orca population that frequents the waters in the Pacific North West.

This encounter is how these animals took a piece of my heart and I will always be drawn to them in someway for the rest of my days.

RIP Doublestuf

Increible photo, thanks for sharing with us. My sunset is not so amazing like yours but I took today from my home and I wanted sharing with you.

That is a great shot of a beautiful sunset! You took this from your home?! thank you for sharing. I will have to follow you for more amazing photographs :)

Thanks a lot! Is my friend house.

That photo looks absolutely fantastic! Orcas are awesome, they are the alpha predators of the sea, just like lions are on the land. I have so much respect for these animals!

Thanks! They are pretty bad-arse animals!!

What an amazing photo! Everything lined up for it! the water, the skies, the mountains, the calm orange from the sun setting!

Thanks! It was one hell of a memorable moment and this photo just sums it up for me

I love the color of the photo; the sky and water.

Looks like the Orca is smoking :)

it does a bit. The colours on the ocean at sunset can be mind-blowing sometimes

Oh wow I love this breathtaking photo. It truly gives me goosebumps!

Cheers! it was simply one of those time-stopping moments that evening

Beautiful shot!! Love it!
Beautiful light on the water!

Just so you know @photogames competitors are probably gonna be confused by the hashtag.

Thanks! Yeah, I noticed that after I posted & just changed it. thanks for the heads up

Orca! My favourite animal, beautiful photo!

Thanks, mate! Mine too. Hence, I travel the world working them these past few years - soooo addictive 😊

You are a lucky man. The craziest thing is, i've never actually seen one in real life. Hoping to do Norway in the coming years for the herring spawning

I would highly, highly recommend! The season there is in winter, which is cold but you also have the opportunity to check out the northern lights as well. Check out a company called SULA - or USEA, a friend, Pierre has been swimming with them for almost 2 decades

I'll have a look into it for sure. My mate went this year and had an amazing time. The videos of orca and humpback whales feeding and the shear number of them was unbelievable. Off topic just a touch, i'm planning on doing a weekly or fortnightly interview/chat with fellow photographers on my page. I was wondering if you'd be interested, obviously splitting the SBD 50-50 trying to grow the community even more.Being a photographer and marine biologist I think you'd be a great person to have a chat with. Let me know what you think!

I can imagine the footage he got. Yeah, mate I would be in for that for sure. might be easier to shoot me an email: [email protected] with details, etc.

Sweet, thanks Thomas. I'll shoot you an email over the weekend!
