GOPRO FOOTAGE SURFING CRONULLA - SOLID SWELL

in #gopro7 years ago

Hey steemians, it was a satisfying day at my local beach Cronulla. Solid swell hit the east coast of Australia as a result of a tropical cyclone called Gita. The waves were not overly huge at 5-6 foot but were powerful. It was a beautiful day with cross off shore wind, resulting in the best surf for some time. The swell will be even bigger tomorrow, although it most likely will not be clean conditions.

The Go pro mouth mount was not a problem in the swell and am very delighted. There was some good quality footage of other surfers charging. Capturing other surfers was a good contrast to the first person perspective; first person seems to make the waves appear a lot smaller than they truly are. Additionally watching other surfers is not only exciting but also allows me to learn so much more about surfing.

I gained some further experience in larger surf, where I felt quite comfortable. I recently shed 5 kg from dieting in the last month, which has helped a great deal in paddling and pop up performance. Hopefully, soon I can begin to land some better manoeuvres and progress my surfing prior to winter. I will need a good amount of practice. The go pro is helping notice errors and some parts of the wave I should have performed a deeper cut back for example. I have always been good at sport but surfing seems to be extra challenging than most, possibly why I enjoy it so much.

SUMMERTIME STINGS

I received a nasty sting yesterday from a blue bottle and it burnt like crazy, which has been a common occurrence in summer. I believe the best remedy is to wash it with salt water, if salt water is not available run tolerable hot water over the sting. Try not use your hand to wash as it will spread the sting to your hand. Surprisingly hot water made a dramatic difference to the pain. Today the sting was awfully itchy; I couldn’t miss the recent swell and went surfing anyway. Annoyingly, the surfboard leash rubbed against my sting; I expect the sting will heal in a few days. You can see in the photo my tan line where the leash is located, I suspect the blue bottle got caught on my leash when catching a wave

I should be a foot model ;)

Thanks for viewing my post and hope you enjoyed the surfing video at my local beach. It is always a pleasure to put together these videos, so stay tuned for more surfing gopro videos.

Got to watch out for the blubies brother!

Sick footage, I entirely know what you mean about the size being underwhelming in gopro footage. Looking at the first wave you took off on I imagine it was well overhead. Waiting until Wednesday over here for some more friendly winds, southernly has been a bit of a buzzkill in the mornings these past weeks.

Keen to know where you attach the camera to get this angle. Is it mouth or waist or something? The footage is awesome

Yes it is a mouth mount, it actually is quite comfortable as its a moulded mouth mount. Its the same one kelly slater uses and it does not allow water in your mouth or impede on breathing. Its actually better than expected.

Awesome bro. Its always good to see people's surfing vids on steemit but to see some quality footage in more challenging waves is refreshing - that big wack @ 2.35! Yew!

Resteemed - hopefully get some more views for you. Try Dtube aswell man, you might get a bit more exposure that way

Sweet, thanks man. Yeh that surfer was sick ahaha. Its great to sit back, watch and learn.

Looks really fun! That sting doesn't look much fun though. we don't get too much jellyfish action here. We do have a lot of stingrays - pretty nasty when you step on one. I heard up north of you they have cube jellies? Now that's some grim reaper stuff right?

The sting is much worse today and couldn't sleep. I tried really hot water again and it took away the itchy :) atleast I know how to deal with these stings now. You heard right, Queensland get box and Irukandji Jellyfish. They are tiny and one of the most venomous . You will need medical attention straight away.

How's the leg? Hope your getting some sleep

Yeh its fine, still really red and itchy at times, slept well last night cos went for another surf :)

I went for a surf today after work, surprisingly it was very rough and powerful(messy but was solid 4 foot swell). Caught some great waves :)

Good to hear! I'm envious of the waves you guys have been getting. Saw some footage of Kirra and it was insane! We have had a very small winter this year

Nice mate, looks like a solid day, it was too big up here in QLD, the pros were getting towed in at Snapper and other spots..definitely out of my pay grade that stuff.

I just saw a vid of Darren Handley rolling a jetski at Kirra. Mental. Heard the locals are really pissed off considering how dangerous it is with the crowds.

Stay safe out there brother

Yes, I heard it was huge up there. I believe the swell is still building here but wont be as big as it was in qld. If its too big, il give it a miss for sure. I surfed about 3 hours today, should be satisfied to rest tomorrow ;)

Aside from the surf Cronulla has some crazy beautiful areas. Here's Boat Harbour:
