$21 Trillion of unauthorized US govt spending by MSU economics professor leads to first-ever DoD Audit!
The Pentagon has announced the first-ever audit of the DoD. Why now?
Although the Defense Department wont admit it, the big announcement came on December 7th just four days after Mark Skidmore's team of economist, graduate students and former government officials at Michigan State University discussed their findings on USAwatchdog.
They discovered approximately $21 trillion in misspent money from 1998-2015, after digging through the websites of the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). This number is extremely alarming considering US national debt is over $20 trillion. One figure that jumped out to Skidmore was from fiscal year 2015, where a report indicated the Army had $6.5 trillion in unsupported adjustments or spending. Their total budget that year was only $122 billion, they spent 54x their budget for that year! Think about that for a second...typically adjustments in public spending are only a small fraction of authorized spending.
The elephant in the room is about to be uncovered as over 1,200 auditors fan out across the DoD. I am sure there is a reason why the US government has turned a blind eye to this quagmire for so long, tax payers might be enraged to find out whats been going on. This massive ball of yarn is likely riddled with fraud, waste, corruption and abuse, there is no telling what we might find.
Please share you comments or thoughts on this exciting announcement and what might come of it.
