SLC21/WK5: Hands-On Practical
I am pleased to participate in the 5th week of Steemit Learning Challenge in graphic design class. This journey has been smooth and interesting from the beginning and I am enjoying every bit of the practical aspect of this course.
Designed with canva
Using Canva app, I will design a flyer for my brand. I already have a logo for my brand so let’s proceed;
Step 1: firstly, I set up my workspace, since I wanted to work on white background, I allowed the default color to remain. I clicked on camera icon, selected my preferred image ( my brand logo) and reduced the transparency to 15%
Step 2: I went to elements icon, selected circle shape and duplicated it into two before placing at the top corners of my design ( left and right).
Step 3: I went back to gallery where I selected my logo design again and placed it on the left circle shape at the top. I used purple color for the circles and hex code of #5E0366.
Step 4: I proceeded to add text; "ANNIVERSARY, EMBER SALES" were typed into the text box and I used impact font style then maintained the default black color.
Step 5: I clicked on elements, selected a square shape, clicked on corner and used the wheel to adjust by creating a corner around the square shape.
I typed in the date for when the sales is starting and ending and then maintained same font style ( impact). I also went back to gallery to select another image for the design.
Step 6: From elements icon, I selected a circle shape where I can add other images before returning back to gallery to select hair bundles’ photos for the design.
Step 7: from elements, I selected a square shape again, clicked on style, added border to the shape and then adjusted the weight to 19% before using yellow color with hex code of #C29A57 for the border.
I clicked on color then removed color from the shape leaving just the border. I typed in the different types of hairs that will be available for the anniversary sales and then changed the font style to impact.
Step 8: I went back to my gallery for the last time, selected steemit logo and typed in my steemit address for contact information using IBM plex serif font style. I placed them on a square shape which I added to the design down.
The last step was to type "up to 10% off" and placed it on the right top of the design and below is the result gotten;
Principle | Description |
---|---|
Emphasis | The background image used gives a perfect description of an hair brand. At the top right corner of my design, the "up to 10% off" already shows that the flyer is about discount sales. |
Hierarchy | I applied principle of hierarchy in my write up; ANNIVERSARY, EMBER SALES and the shapes I used below the texts. |
Alignment | Both my write up and the images used in this design align perfectly and the message can easily be passed across visually without confusion. |
Color combination | this is an important part of design, I was extremely careful with the colors. I tried not to use multiple colors that will make my design unattractive but yet go with uniform combination and well visible colors. |
This was easy to achieve, I used the below steps to create a promotional mockup design;
Step 1: I created a new workspace, clicked on mockups, selected my preferred type which was an ipad.
Step 2: I went to gallery, selected my newly designed flyer and carefully placed on the screen.
Here's the result;
I will invite @suboohi, @dequeen and @ruthjoe to join the class.
Hello @adylinah thank you for participating in this week's lesson. We have assessed your entry and we present the result of our assessment below.
Feedback:
Welcome back to class dear student.
Let me start by commending you for a job weldone, the effort put in this work is quite commendable.
Your flier design is nice and simple, but I must confess, it's a great improvement when compared with the very last design you made in your homework task. I would encourage you to keep at improving in your practice by continuous exposure to graphic design material.
The mockup you chose is quite suitable for your flier.I wish you all the very best, Weldone!
