Keep your Gridcoin while participating in the new WCG Byteball distribution

This post is due to MisterYpsilon and originally posted on reddit here.

This is a great opportunity for all Gridcoin crunchers to acquire some free Bytes. I am only reposting it here to raise awareness about this distribution and to make sure that everyone who is interested in participating does so promptly. You must be crunching World Community Grid on Boinc for 3 days by Saturday the 19th to get the rewards.

The full post follows below:

There's a challenge currently running where 1 GByte will be distributed equally among all members of the Byteball.org WCG team that are linked to the distribution if at least 75% of the linked accounts are in the team by next Saturday, 23:59:59 UTC.

Now the thing is, you can help reach that 75% and get your share of the bonus distribution without missing out on your Gridcoin rewards! You just have to make sure you don't stake a DPoR block while you are in the Byteball team in the current superblock.

So to take part in the challenge, you would have to

  1. Stop your wallet (or switch to investor mode by commenting out the email= line in your gridcoinresearch.conf, if you still want to stake interest...)
  2. Join the Byteball.org team on World Community Grid
  3. Switch back to the Gridcoin team after the challenge is over
  4. Wait for the next superblock
  5. Start your wallet again

When you stake your next block, you will be rewarded as if you had been on the Gridcoin team the whole time. This works because the reward is calculated based on only your magnitude as of the block you are currently staking and the last block you staked (and the average magnitude of all your past DPoR blocks, to be completely precise). The magnitude you had on the superblocks in between doesn't matter at all, so you will definitly not lose any GRC rewards.

The challenge is now finished. Even though the target was not met, a user paid out anyway from their personal wallet. I think I really like the community behind byteball! Keep an eye out for any future distributions everyone!

Damn I was watching this to see if people from our Gridcoin community commented to see if fraud or not. Sad to see no comments from dev's or team Gridcoin users. I will be looking for future posts to look for comments as team Gridcoin and switching sounds sketchy to me especially if you have not been paid out for a project and its attempted while switched if you get no payment for past work being paid out it the 6 month period while switched to the " wrong " team and if you will be paid for that work when you switch back. Please Barton26 or Peppernrino or someone else I trust and whom is reliable comment about this for future reference please.
