PROMOTING STEEMIT: The hardballs, wrong orientation and perceptions.-- Clearing some misconceptions.
Promoting Steemit can be one damn doozy if you have ever tried to. You may think it is hard and then it isn't and when you think it is easy, you get slammed by the most unimaginable tackle that floors you. So what do you do?
Now, I may not be an expert in these matters, but I have some experiences after having recruited over 30 steemians, worked with a team to promote Steemit in the University where we shared 700 flyers to students and lecturers and having to deal with more than 80 intending Steemians through a whatsapp group. Trust me, I know.
Promoting Steemit anywhere is not easy. Sure, talking about it is easy but getting down to the "matter" of being an earning Steemian can be arcane to the untrained and even the trained with the wrong orientation.
Steemit is growing at an alarming rate and this is expected to continue for quite sometime. Recruiting new members on this social network built on the blockchain is easy, in fact very easy actually, but getting them to stay and thrive in line with the expected rules and guidelines can get HARD.
What are the guidelines? Do not loose your password. No spamming. No Plagiarism. No copy/paste. Do not go out of turns.
Following these guides and more, will enable a smooth transaction on the Steemit network.
So lets get back to clearing some misconceptions.
- Preach Steemit as a career and investment opportunity. Inculcate a work and investment mindset in your recruits. How much does it pay?, How do I get the money out? and How soon can I start earning? are some of the questions that I have had to field from people whenever i go out to talk about how I feel about loving Steeming my meals.
let your new recruits know that there are no shortcuts to earning here. Many think Steemit is Apocryphal the minute you tell them they have to do some work in order to earn.
What to do.
Never fail to let them know it is not a free website for picking gold as some others in the past have been perceived and seen. It is better to have no one come with you than have a hundred that will scream for your head when they fail to make an earning. Tell them to put in work, time and money to make a "kill" on Steemit.
Damn! I will be in luck if I get a $100SBD payout for this post even with a (53) reputation score.
- Signing up is easy as ABC; but is it? No fewer than 6 persons have complained about not being able to access their accounts after signing up. Many are used to using their birthdays, pet names or first love names as their password and are not used to these string password as seen on steemit.
What to do.
Make sure to lecture your new recruits about generating their passwords and saving same so as to not get locked out of their accounts. I tell my new recruits to, after generating their passwords, to compose a mail and send it to themselves. That way, they have it both in their sent items and inbox.
- Doing their first post. It is crucial to get it right when attempting to get your first post out on the platform that will pay you handsomely should it gain traction. I didn't get anybody to tell me how to go about my first post, I figured it out because I could and have patience to understand what it was that is before me.
Doing an #introduceyourself post doesn't guarantee huge earnings, but it does guarantee some recognition as you will get welcome messages from fellow steemians and bots. You will even gain quite some number of followers just through your introduce yourself post.
What to do.
Tell your new recruits about taking their time to do their first post. If you can send them clues and links from where they can be able to access such articles and see how other people who had successes did theirs. Teach them to read the FAQs and understand fully what it takes to be a steemian that earns. I think doing an introduce yourself post is like "paying" tuition for class and you get paid for doing it.
- Navigating Steemit. For a first timer, it is not easy to navigate this website and then start earning. Looking at the website as a newbie can get really confusing for some, and that can post some challenges. Take for instance, getting to put a profile picture up needs you to go through some other website like www.postimage.com or any other one out there. You should be able to provide some basic walk through for your new recruits.
During the just concluded Steemit promotion in Port Harcourt, I met no fewer than 4 steemians who after joining months ago stopped "chasing the dream" because it appeared different inside that was seen from the outside.
What to do
When you recruit newcomers, take out time to help them figure out the platform. Doing what makes it easy for them to become successful is what you should do for them over and over again. Some persons are only concerned about the number of persons they bring in and not on the number that truly gets a benefit. So do more for them and in the process of doing so, you will find more for yourself.
- Community participation. Here in Steemit, we all know the importance community participation plays in achieving success. So it is important to get new users into the right community that will help them grow and also contribute to the newbies that will come after them. Steemit to me is a State of its own and living in this state means you have to belong to a community that will enable you get better recognition and benefits.
What to do.
Get new users into a community. There are so many communities that are looking to accept newbies aka minnows.
For complete introduction and subsequent settling of your recruits, teach them community involvement and participation. There are communities on Steem chat and Discord channel that have tools and people to help make their stay profitable and memorable.
We are all looking to make our world a better place and for some of us from Countries considered as developing or third world Steemit is a goldmine and being able to get the best out of it will make living under hash conditions bearable. Internet cost and electricity cost can be handled when a writer can earn for his work. So make sure to help someone really settle down.
Promoting Steemit is hard. There are the hardballs, the wrong orientation that somehow affects many and the wrong perceptions that makes every new person talk negatively. But if you try some more to look inward, you will be able to get it right and do what needs to be done to help someone succeed.
