Federal Court quietly rules ‘assault rifles’ not protected by 2nd amendment. Trap or opportunity?

This is bad. But maybe this ruling will actually turn out in our favor.

We think we need assault rifles because we are afraid of our government, and rightly so. Our government has been militarizing police forces, which murder people. More than that, since its beginning, our government has been responsible for more murders than I even want to know. Their clear intention now to disarm us is terrifying. As I suspect it was intended to be.

So, what are our options?

A really great option would be for us to remember that even though it doesn’t look like it, the government gets its power from us.

In our focus on our guns, and the right to keep guns, we overlooked that we actually have a better weapon than mere guns.

For a demonstration, look at Standing Rock. Look at the police who turned in their badges rather than attack protestors at Standing Rock. Look at the thousands of veterans who went to Standing Rock to form a human shield with themselves. Look at the law enforcement who refused to attack veterans.

Our power to prevail over the corrupt within our government was demonstrated here for all to see.

It doesn’t matter how many armed soldiers, or even tanks they have, and which we don’t have, if we refuse to attack each other at their command.

We refuse orders which we can see are immoral. We support each other. And we win.

We do not have to fear the corrupt people who are within our government if we can have faith in the other people in our government, in our police and military, and in each other.

At the Standing Rock protests, many thousands of us demonstrated they can be counted on. Let’s join them. This country was founded on people disobeying orders. And also, on really good ideals, including freedom of fear from our government. And this is within our reach.

Sure, it would feel more secure to have faith in each other, and also have assault rifles. But realistically, I doubt we will have the luxury of the plan B of the assault rifles much longer. Maybe it is time to recognize that against our government, the guns were only a false sense of security anyway.

We might lose the battle to keep guns. The good news is that if this gets us to understand that we are all in this together, we will gain the upper hand.
