I would love to say this is the end of a remarkably bad day, however, it does not end here.
Earlier in the day I wrote an article on accidentally sending 1ETH to an incorrect address. Well the day got worse as follows:
Having participated in several ICO's over the last 6 months, I often use a popular wallet as suggested by the community - MyEtherWallet. No doubt I have full confidence in this token wallet and I did all the mistakes that again have been warned against.
As a member of several Slack community groups, I received a message pertaining to one ICO where funds had not been credited to MyEtherWallet correctly. Given this, I clicked on the link (first major mistake). I was taken to a site that looked exactly like the official MyEtherWallet site and I proceeded to upload my file and input my password. When the file did not load correctly, I knew something was wrong. So quickly logging out, I went to the actual MyEtherWallet site, just in time, to see the funds being cleaned out. On by one, tokens that I had participated in and were sitting on, disappeared. I checked EitherScan and sure enough, they were being pushed out to addresses - gone forever!
I understand this space, it is a HUGE RISK. The money you make in token price movements IS NOT YOURS UNTIL IT IS CASHED OUT OR LOCKED AWAY
Fortunately, as a rule, I only hold 5% of funds in any one place, wallet, or address. It was a huge lesson (second in the day) and a slap in the face to wake up and take this seriously. A lot of money is being made, but a whole bunch more can be lost, very fast.
I now am re-looking at my stratergies to protect my holdings. To ensure that this cannot be replicated. I hope your staying safe with your crypto.
