in #happiness2 years ago

The science of happiness. What does that mean? Is a scientific study proving that being happy makes people more productive, healthier, and happier in general? Yes! There are many studies on this topic. There are hundreds of them.

They all seem to agree that happiness is good for you. But how do they come to this conclusion? And what exactly do they prove about happiness and productivity? Let’s take a look at some of the most popular studies on the subject:

  1. A Study from University College London (UCL) found that happier people had better health outcomes than those who weren’t as happy. This was true even when factors such as age, gender, income level, and education were considered. The researchers concluded that “happiness may be an important factor in maintaining our health” (source).

  2. Another study by UCL found similar results about longevity; those who reported higher levels of life satisfaction lived longer than those who reported lower levels (source).

  3. A Harvard Medical School study showed a direct relationship between positive emotions like joy or contentment and physical well-being like less pain or improved sleep quality (source).
