Hot tea is a staple beverage in winter time; it can help to keep us warm and soothe sore throats. It can give us that energy boost in the morning or help to relax us in the afternoon. However, a new study suggests that drinking hot tea may have serious negative consequences for some of us..

Among people who regularly smoked cigarettes and drank at least one drink per day, drinking hot tea was linked to a five-times higher risk of developing esophageal cancer, compared to those who didn’t do any of those three habits. In people who didn’t have those two vices, however, drinking tea did not seem to have a significant effect on cancer development.

However, previous studies have suggested that drinking extremely hot beverages, with temperatures above 149 degrees Fahrenheit (65 degrees Celsius), could lead to esophageal cancer. CNN noted that a 2016 review in The Lancet Oncology, classified very hot liquids as “probably carcinogenic to humans.”

SO guyzz prevention is better than cure...BEWARE..

Sort:

Who drinks tea at 65 degree Celsius?! And WHY?! It has to hurt your mouth first before your esophagus, and that's a fair warning not to drink it extremely hot.

well there are some people who prefer to drink extremely hot tea.. they dont consider a less hot tea even as TEA!!!!

Well, that hurts. And I see the point why it can lead to cancer, because it wounds your esophagus.

yess you are right

Interesting post. I believe that stress can be one of the main trigger of developing cancer. And about tea - summer is coming, better to have a cold cocktail :)

great.. a cold cocktail is a delish option..
