F*CKING FENTANYL

in #health7 years ago

Pardon my language...

But something has occurred (and has been occurring) that needs the attention of others. On May 14th this year the world lost yet another beautiful soul to Fentanyl. For those who do not know what Fentanyl is- it is a narcotic that is 100 times stronger than Morphine and is often used during operations for pain control and by persons with chronic debilitating pain...its use in healthcare settings is very controlled by healthcare professionals. However, Canada is currently undergoing a crisis involving this drug. Thousands of people across the country have died of Fentanyl overdoses in the community, and no one seems quite sure how to resolve the issue other than the reactive approach of supplying greater access to the antidote- Naloxone aka. Narcan.

What many people don't know about the Fentanyl crisis is that it was self-inflicted by a poor choice made by the Canadian government to abruptly 'cleanse' the country of OxyContin, resulting in people with an addiction to OxyContin to seek out other forms of narcotic- mainly Fentanyl. Hence, the influx of Fentanyl to the market (surprise, surprise). Addiction is an extremely complex, chronic illness: decriminalization, de-stimgatization and adequate social structures are the only proper solutions.

When has cutting off the supply of a drug ever reduced the demand?

The war on drugs has failed.

When will our leaders open up their minds and realize this?

RIP G.K.

I agree. F*ck fentynil but we know who created and allows fentynil to be sold by criminal organizations. The CIA. It is well documented. Why do you think our own troops were guarding poppy fields in the Middle East until Trump came in ( not saying trump is good or bad, just stating facts ). When Al Quida was in charge they were dropping in heroin production rates monthly and when the US was guarding them they were breaking production records. On top of this only a fraction of people die from illegal opiates as that that die from the 100,000 deaths per year from legal prescription drugs (all drug classes included). Not disagreeing with you, I'm just saying our own medical system as a whole (purely allopathic medicine) is far more problematic than fentynil alone. I do really like that you're trying to get the word out though because the any lives lost in such a senseless way is too many. I jut wanted to comment further on the source of the problem. Thanks for shairing!
