Perfect Health #1: The Introduction
Hey Steemians,
Today I’m starting a new series called “Perfect Health”. In this series, I plan to explore the approach we take on our journey towards a healthy lifestyle. I also want to challenge some of the dilemmas we spend our energy on looking for the "perfect health" solution.
My hope is that we begin to approach health from a holistic viewpoint, working to balance not only our body but our mind and soul as well. This should make for some interesting discussion. I hope you enjoy!
Today’s post is simply an introduction that answers the question “Why is perfect health?” Does it even exist :-O
What is perfect health? How do you achieve it? — Everytime you turn on the TV or read an article, a new solution for health is bound to be a part of the mix. There is either a what to eat recommendation, a how to relieve stress article or something about mental health. The conversation around health in relation to food seems to be most popular of the three but can one be healthy if they only focus on the food part of health? If you have a great diet but obsess about working out and stress about eating perfectly, are you healthy?
The Constitution of the World Health Organization originally defined health “as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being.” It's sensed evolved to the following:
The first is that health is the absence of any disease or impairment. The second is that health is a state that allows the individual to adequately cope with all demands of daily life (implying also the absence of disease and impairment). The third definition states that health is a state of balance, an equilibrium that an individual has established within himself and between himself and his social and physical environment.
I'd like to explore health considering the updated definition from the perspective that "perfect health" is a balance of body, mind, and soul.
BODY
What you put in your mouth does more than just satisfy your craving, it also affects how you feel. Have you ever noticed how a warm brownie sundae makes you feel after a long stressful day? You initially feel comforted and then eventually you crash. It feels good at first but then you start to feel bad that you had the piece of cake and its something that you can even control. A combination of your personal "judge", societal influence and neurological activity all play a part in how you feel after indulging.
Depending on what you eat, it can either give you energy and sustain positivity or take your energy away and make you feel sluggish. Food affects your mood, focus, and clarity. I believe the body part of health is focused on the most because we can see food and the effect it has on the body unlike mind and soul.
MIND
Mind set is all about outlook. According to Psychology Today, a mindset is a belief that orients the way we handle situations — the way we sort out what is going on and what we should do. Our mindsets help us spot opportunities but they can trap us in self-defeating cycles. Just like you exercise your body, you can also exercise your mind. You are not stuck with the beliefs that you may have started with. Overthinkers and negative Nancy's are not doomed to be stuck in their way.
If you feed your mind positivity, it will remember that gesture and over time continue to feed itself. The same is true from negativity however so be sure to choice your food wisely.
SOUL
Health is not about what you feed your body and mind but also your soul. Your soul needs inspiration, new experiences, personal interactions and stimulation. Music, meditation, massage, and movement are all simple ways to feed your soul.
Let me know your definition of perfect health.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on perfect health and offering up topics that get us to think.
Best,
