Food provides consolation or fills an emotional gap for these people. Eating is merely a substitute for something else in this scenario. Food will never be able to replace this void, thus the person will continue to eat in the hopes of satisfying it. Both of these circumstances can result in weight increase or even obesity.
A diet is nothing more than a short-term weight-loss plan. This, however, cannot be continued, and once the diet is completed, the person frequently regains all of their lost weight, if not more! Weight loss must be approached as a lifestyle change rather than a diet. A lifestyle change entails a long-term process that takes time to implement yet has long-term consequences.
