WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY 2018: TOBACCO BREAKS THE HEART IN MANY WAYS
As we continue to advocate for an end to drug and substance abuse, today we join other advocates all over the world in advocating for a Tobacco-free generation on the occasion of WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY marked on the 31st day of May 2018. This year’s theme is TOBACCO BREAKS THE HEART . Indeed Tobacco breaks the heart in many ways
Tobacco breaks the heart physiologically by predisposing smokers to increased risk of stroke and coronary heart diseases. This further increases the chances of early deaths.
Tobacco smoking also causes psychological heart break as it leads to addiction, a brain disease which can be difficult to treat and often characterized by relapse. It also leads to addiction to other substances which alter moods, behaviour and perception which are also harmful to the body and the society
OTHER ILLS OF TOBACCO SMOKING
For men and women smoking REDUCES FERTILITY. It causes complications in pregnancy. Smoking increases risk of having Diabetes which can lead to hypertension and kidney diseases. It increases risk of cataracts, rheumatoid arthritis, gum and teeth problems, reduces body immune system.
Apart from all these, Tobacco smoking hurts the lungs and causes diseases of the respiratory tracts, lung cancer and increases risk and complications of asthma. Other cancers caused by tobacco include Bladder, Blood (acute myeloid leukemia), Cervix, Colon and rectum (colorectal), Esophagus, Kidney and ureter, Larynx, Liver, Oropharynx (includes parts of the throat, tongue, soft palate, and the tonsils), Pancreas, Stomach, Trachea, and bronchus.
In all of these, TOBACCO SMOKING HAS NO KNOWN HEALTH BENEFITS hence it is altogether hazardous to the body and
persons who stay around smokers inhaling the tobacco smoke (second-hand smokers) are also at risk of these health problems.
It is only beneficial to stay away from tobacco smoking. It pays to save our heart from Tobacco Smoke.
Tobacco is the number 1 cause of preventable early death. You can not change your age or your parents but you can choose to not smoke or stop. Most smokers become addicted as teenagers before they know better. Tobacco (nicotine) is one of the most addictive substances known. It is easier to get people off heroin than nicotine. Governments are addicted to the taxes they make from tobacco. They say they want it to stop but do they? Premature deaths save governments from paying for health care (think less people on Medicare and social security). If they wanted to they could ban cigarette sales tomorrow. The majority of people are too lazy to grow and roll their own cigarettes (especially teens). Cigarette companies know if you can't get teens addicted it is not a profitable business model.
