Fad Diets Don't Work

in #health7 years ago

The new year is here and that means new years resolutions have been made or are being made. It is common for people to make New year Goals around weight loss and eating healthy, which is great. However, it is also common for people to follow fad diets to help them lose the weight rather than approaching weight loss healthily. A healthy weight loss will always lead to a successful weight loss.

Fad diets do not work because they are not sustainable, you cannot adhere to them in the long term. While you may lose weight, the weight lost is short lived as once you stop that fad diet you will gain the weight you lost and then some.

Studies show that 95% of all dieters will regain the weight they lost in 1-5 years. A most common effect of beginning a diet and not 'succeeding' is yo-yo dieting. This cycle involves starting a diet for a period of time, stopping and then restarting it again.

No matter what, stay away from these fad diets.

In the past I was employed as a weight loss coach and saw many people visit me that have been on fad diets in the past. Fad diets really mess with peoples' minds! I'm glad you shared this. The way I eat may be considered a "fad" diet since I am vegan, but it's not the restriction of meat that helped me lose 40 pounds, it is the addition of more whole healthy foods and less processed foods and junk.

Thanks for the comment :)
Yes, fad diets can mess with the mind and overall health. Sure being vegan does involve restriction, not eating meat, but as long as a diet/lifestyle is sustainable and overall healthy that is what is important. But yes, like you said you never followed a vegan diet for the weight loss reasons, but for the health benefits.
