Pumping Iron to keep Anemia away!

Anemia happens when you have iron deficiency and one sure way to put it at bay is to eat a high variety of food in high moderation. Food with iron will work.

What is Anemia?


This is a condition that is said to develop when your blood lacks enough healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a main part of red blood cells and binds oxygen. If you have too few or abnormal red blood cells, or your hemoglobin is abnormal or low, the cells in your body will not get enough oxygen. Source


Take your vitamins and fruits, son!

Growing up, our mothers always painfully advised us to take our vitamins and fruits and we mostly pretend to be doing that while skipping it. We never did take those vitamins seriously and now, we wished we did.
The title pumping Iron simply means the you taking a fair amount of the right diet so you do not suffer iron deficiency in your life. Iron deficiency also leads to memory faltering, weakness and general ill health.


Let's Pump Iron.

These food sources of iron will he go a long way to help you stay iron filled.

  • Eat your Beans. Beans are one of the iron sources for the human body. Soybeans, lentils, kidney beans and limas are all rich sources of iron legumes and they will do you good if you take them regularly and moderately.
    To spice it up, you could add some veggies.

  • Take your oranges. Whatever you eat be it, vegetables, fruits, beans and nuts, they will do better in your body with the presence of Vitamin C. The RDA recommends a 60 milligrams of Vitamin C daily. You can choose the type of juice you want between, tomatoe juice, grapefruit and oranges.

  • Eat your Oats. Eat your oatmeal in an instant. Take your oats every morning and make sure the right amount is taken because it is a right source of iron and it will help you pump the irons into your system to keep anemia away from you.

  • Drink your tea or coffee alone.
    Do not take either of these with your meal, because they both can hinder iron absorption. It is best to take your tea or coffee 1 or 2 hours after meal so the beverage will not take effect.

  • Cook your meal in iron cookware.
    Can you believe that when you cook with iron cookware, it increases your iron consumption? Well it seems to be true because it is said that, some of the irons actually leaches out into the food. Also, acidic food such as tomatoes sauce will sure draw out the most iron.

  • Snack on nuts and figs. Sunflower seed, cashew and peanuts are amongst the most known iron rich snack that one should take to stay on cause with the iron diet. Snacking on these iron enabling figs and nuts is a sure way to keep healthy and away from Anemia.

  • Eat lean red meat. Red meat contain the kind of Iron called Heme iron that the human body can easily absorb and use.
    The problem here is that, although it has iron, it is often high in fat which is a health risk. So to be able to get the most of it and less of the harm, select the leanest part of the meat. A recommended amount can help you stay in shape.

  • Ask your doctor about iron supplement. Discuss with your doctor so you can get the right amount of iron supplements to keep you away from Anemia. If you have already been diagnosed with it, do well to follow through with your doctor's subscription and advice.
    Your doctor will always get you the right amounts of iron needed.

Taking the right food in moderation has a lot to do with keeping us healthy. I have come to discover that what makes us stay alive are really those small stuffs we do not take seriously.
Doing what mama asked us to do as kids, did take us away from the troubles that roam the streets and should you work in strict accordance with observing your dietary routine the best way possible, you will be staying away from harm's way.

The sources of food you mentioned to provide iron in the body above are ok by me though, i am not a fan of oatmeal and like putting sweetner in my tea or coffee. I hope i am not doing anything bad to my health. Thanks for this information @ejemai

This is a very important topic @ejemai, buta word of caution here:

Anemia has been implicated in poor milk production in nursing mothers. However, if an amnesiac nursing mother indiscriminately takes iron supplements, it may cause constipation in her baby.

So indiscriminate intake of iron supplements by nursing mothers is discouraged.

All the ironic food should be properlly checkmate to ensure excessiveness of it is kept in the right place. Thanks for posting.

I really can't eat red meat, I have a condition called alpha-gay allergy, which wouldn't allow me eat red meat, but would explore the other options..

Thanks for bringing this health tips. For sometimes Now, I've been trying to love healthy. Quite expensive but worth it. There are also some pretty great fruit that helps out system not available here in naija. Significant amount are grown in India.

Then I came across Trévo a combination of 174 natural ingredients including herbs and fruits. And Trévo is sweet.

Healthy living even helps think well.

Also, Sickle cell in a way does allow for much iron intake.... Just a significant amount. So please dosage matters at regards your health status
