An apple a day...well, im not sure

in #health7 years ago

So, everyone at some point has heard the term 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away' right? Well after working in Australia as an 'Apple picker' im not so convinced... you see, the apples we find in the supermarkets are there all year round, yet they aren't ripe on the tree all year round. So? Whats up?

Well, the first thing we noticed when we started work was this fine, white powdery substance that constantly dropped from the leaves as we picked the Apples. The second thing we noticed is that we were also sneezing alot. Then we found these...

We asked the farmer what the sprays where used for, his reply was that he sprayed very minimal compared to other farms and that his sprays where just used to harden the apples, imitate the hormonal scent of female moths to send the males into a horny craze where they fly around until they drop dead and the last one to keep the apples from developing black spots on them... YUM!
Now, as I did, you probably knew that theres a big problem with the pestiside useage on our food! But, have you ever wondered why the supermarket apples are often 'flourey' on the inside?

Now, this one really shocked me! Out of all the apples we picked, not one of them will be sold this year! The farmers store them in a cold room, kept cool using ammonia gas for over a year before the supermarkets will touch them!
I think I'd be a little flourey on the inside too after that treatment!
The reason I want to spread the knowledge I gained from this experience isn't because I want you to stop eating Apples or any other fruit, but rather look at where your food is coming from and how long it took to get there!

I have a very strong interest in Organics and will be writing further on this kind of topic, I reccomended choosing Organic at every possible chance to keep yourself from literally being a test subjet. The amount of our food which is sprayed and modified to death is incredible and they don't seem to want to slow down! For example, in my birth country of New Zealand, on average by the time a child has reached 5 years of age it would have ingested over 3.5kg of food additives alone!
Freaky, right?!
