Wildcrafted Medicine: The Incredible Healing Properties of Lemon Balm
Every aspect of life is better when you are healthy!
We love to share sustainable, accessible, cheap (or even free!), holistic options we find that enhance wellness. Nature offers solutions to all of the human body's "problems", and we want to reconnect you to these roots! Knowing your options for real THRIVAL empowers you to take responsibility for your health into your own hands. Whether you take this info with you into the garden or wilderness, or you choose to order our beyond organic, super sustainable tea blends (or both!), we wish you happy healing.
With that in mind, we are sharing the incredible healing properties of the delicious, fragrant herb LEMON BALM with you today:
Lemon balm is a beautiful aromatic relative of mint with tons of super powers! We have huge patches of lush lemon balm in our garden this year. It's a hardy plant that needs very little maintenance, and bees really love it (hence its alternate name, bee balm). Given the declining bee population, it's great to plant some things that help out our little winged friends...because if the bees die, we all die too.
Lemon balm is well known for its ability to relieve stress, but it's also a superb anti-viral! New research suggests compounds in lemon balm have the capacity to eradicate the herpes virus and reduce the severity of outbreaks.
We add it to our food & activated water, dry it for tea, and are making some potent tinctures as well to utilize its healthful benefits. It is also a great addition to homemade beauty products for its skin-soothing benefits.
Plant medicine has been respected and used effectively for thousands of years. We hope you're inspired to experiment with lovely lemon balm for yourself!

I used lemon balm to help heal my last shingles episode. Worked very well with neem oil and monolaurin!
That's a really great testimony, @misskateabate! How long did you take it, and at what concentration? So great to hear you've regained your health!!!
Honestly, I'm not sure what concentration I took. I used a few homemade creams that contained lemon balm and they were helpful on the shingles themselves. I used it for about three months. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing! We've had great success using colloidal gold, aloe, and other herbs for shingles. It's wonderful to hear testimonials for natural plant remedies!
What concentration would you recommend for shingles bumps? I did use colloidal, but it was silver, not gold, and it still seemed to help.
hmm.. I should look for some in the garden and then put it in my water - thanks for the tip!
i do need this now - much stress these days :)
they call this citroen melissa here - lemon melissa :)
funny name :)
Melissa is an alternate name for it here too; "melissa" means "bee" in Greek, and refers to how the plant attracts bees! We love to put it in our water, it's delicious and very soothing. Enjoy, @englishtchrivy!
Lemon balm is super easy to propagate you don't even need rooting hormone just cut off 6 to 8 inches or so just below a node and snip away the lower leaves then place in a glass of water in a sunny window. In a few weeks or sooner you will see tiny little roots starting to grow once the roots are a few inches they are ready to transplant.
Thanks @jetjockey! Yes lemon balm is a great plant to propagate! Just like mint, it grows as a runner as is super duper hardy. Once you have some established, it really loves to spread! Sharing it with friends and family who want to plant their own gardens is a great use for it when it's time to prune it back, because as you point out it's so easy to start.

I love to know which plants can replace some of the most commonly used medicines. Killing the herpes virus is one of them, thanks for sharing. Upvote and resteem.
Yes it's a pretty big deal to find a plant that can remedy/relieve "uncureable" conditions. Thanks for your support, @pf-coin!
Oh what a plant!! Another great thing about lemon balm is that once you have a plant already growing, more plants will sprout and grow themselves without having to seed or transplant at all. This is a great post--some truly powerful information shared for optimal health. Thanks @gardenofeden!
Yes it's super healthy and super easy to grow. It makes sense for every herb garden to include it! Thanks for the input, @everlove!
