Hello Steemian, I trust you are all doing great. This afternoon I will be sharing with you one of the major problems we face as Steemians which is getting an adequate sleep. Since I joined Steemit a few months ago I've become more of a nocturnal person sleeping late and waking up early just to connect and monitor the response on my blog.

As we all know having a very good sleep pattern is of great importance to our health and our mind. Today I will walk you through sleeping taking some important benefits of having an adequate sleep.

Sleep

Sleep according to Wikipedia is a naturally recurring state of mind and body characterized by altered consciousness, muscle relaxation and reduced perception of environmental stimuli.

Why You Need To Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is a natural process and as there is this saying that says "nature cannot be cheated" so not getting adequate sleep is not without its own consequence.

Benefits Of Sleeping

  • Enhances The Function Of The Brain And Mind: Having an adequate sleep improves the function of the brain. During sleeping, the brain prepares itself for the next active period. Studies have shown that having an adequate sleep influences learning, creativity, decision-making, and thinking. Therefore improving productivity.

  • **Improve Our Health: It is a well-known fact that having a good sleeping habit is of great importance to our health. Studies have shown that individuals that tend to have poor sleeping habits are prone to having heart disease or stroke and also recent experiments as shown that a poor sleep pattern affects blood sugar and therefore reduces the sensitivity of insulin which in turn leads to diabetes. With all these studies and experiments, it is proofing that a good sleeping habit is of great importance to our health.

  • Improved Daytime Performance: Like I earlier said, having an adequate sleep enhances the function of the brain and mind. Therefore, having enough and quality sleep helps us function properly in our daily routine. It increases our alertness and makes us physically active.

  • Sleeping Improves Immune Function

Why Can't You Get Enough Sleep

There are several factors that can influence our sleeping habits of which I can discuss just a few.

  • Stress: As humans, we sometimes stress ourselves too much by working through our sleeping hours. Therefore, takes a toll on our sleeping pattern.

  • Worries: Personally as a person, I find it difficult sleeping when I have something bothering me. My mind tends to keep processing that particular issue even when my eyes are shut. Thus, hindering me from getting a proper sleep.

  • Illness/Sleeping Disorder: Sleeping inadequately can also be as a result of illness or sleeping disorder.

  • Medications: The use of some drugs can affect our sleep pattern. Drugs are prescribed with good intentions but some drugs affect our sleeping pattern as side effects.

  • Eating Habit: Taking foods or drinks that contain caffeine can affect our sleep. Caffeine is known stimulant that affects our sleep.

  • Noise

Getting That Adequate Sleep

We all need to sleep and rest our body for us to have a sharper mind. Research has shown that an average woman needs a sleep of 7-9 hours per day. Though the amount of sleep we need differs individually, we all need to sleep.

Tips On Having That Sound Sleep:

  • Make Sleep A Priority: Attaching a great level of importance to our sleep is the first major step to having a good sleep pattern.

  • Set A Daily Sleep Routine: Yes, setting a daily sleep routine is a good way to improve your sleeping habit as the body adapts with time. Therefore, setting a standard sleep time simply programs your mind and body to shut down at that particular time frame.

  • Write Down Those Things That Bothers You: Writing down things running through your mind before sleeping for 2-3 minutes helps clear the mind. Therefore, aids sleeping.

  • Avoid Eating or Drinking Caffeinated Food or Drink: We should always avoid caffeine food hours before bedtime. Caffeine induces some neurotransmitters that hinders sleep.

Sleep is an important part of life. Sleep well, Eat well and Exercise your body. They are very important to having a sound health
