A Killer Plant Has A Good Side

What plant contains one of the most lethal poisons known to man but has been used for thousands of years to treat, provide relief and may have substantial health benefits beyond belief? If you said the castor plant, you are correct.
The castor plant(Ricinus communis) grows as a weed in many areas, in fact many of you may have it growing in your own backyard and not even know it. Certainly, if you live in Florida you have seen this plant growing almost everywhere.

So here is the interesting part of the story. This plant creates a seed that contains a poison beyond belief, in fact it is so lethal it has been used as a instrument of biological warfare. The poison inside is called ricin and it can wreak havoc; however, this seed when pressed produces an oil, this oil is then cooked which completely breaks down the deadly poison leaving it safe for consumption. Castor oil has a variety of uses from machinery lubricants, to cosmetic emollients, skin protectants, and to solve the pesky problem of constipation.

There are other benefits of this plant that are of interest.
1.May help to regrow hair for baldness - Apply the oil to your scalp and allow it to stay on for a couple of hours. Then wash it out with shampoo and conditioner – Do this once a week for a period of time and see if you gain any of the hair-growing powers this plant may have.
2.Anti-Inflammatory- The Castor when ingested into the small bowel creates a rich triglyceride, one called ricinolein. This may show efficacy for people who have rheumatism, painful joints and even psoriasis.
3.Colon Cleanse- Feeling a little plugged up? Try using a tablespoon of castor oil and your plug is sure to loosen.
4.Acne- The antimicrobial and germicidal effects of the active compound can also benefit those who suffer from bacterial breakouts on their face. Apply the oil as you wash your face.
5.Dry Skin and Hair- The oil makes a great additive to your daily routine. The oil is great to soothe away chapped, dry and scaly skin due to the high viscosity of the oil. So next time you have dry skin look for castor oil.
