Arrowroot can be used as an alternative thickener in baking and baking soda can be used to help cakes, etc. rise.
MountainRoseHerbs.com is a great place to get these ingredients. There is a brand called bob's red mill that is carried in most grocery stores and and makes both of the items if you don't want to order online. They have multiply uses in the home and can be used for both cleaning and cooking.
