Biking "poses no danger" to sexual health in men
A recent study found that cycling does not harm sexual health or urinary system in men.
The researchers compared cyclists, runners and swimmers and found that sexual health and urinary system status were the same among the three groups.
The results of this study contrast with previous research suggesting that cycling may have a negative impact on sexual health, but the recent study confirmed that the benefits of cycling "outweigh the damage."
There were 2,774 cyclists in Britain, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as 539 swimmers and 789 runners. Participants were asked to answer questions in a questionnaire that measures sexual health and urinary system.
The state of sexual health and urinary system functions were largely the same, according to researchers prepared for the study, although some cyclists suffered from narrowing of the urethra or urethral artery.
The survey also revealed that there were significant differences between those who cycled heavily, more than three days a week for 25 miles at a time, and cycling enthusiasts.
The benefits are enormous
The authors of the study, published in the Journal of Urology, "Urology", said the results contradict previous studies suggested the existence of negative effects on the erection.
The researchers said previous studies lacked group comparisons and fewer subjects.
"Bicycling has enormous benefits for the heart and arteries, while its effect on the joints is less," said Benjamin Breyer of the University of California's Urology Department in San Francisco.
"The health benefits of cyclists go beyond the damage."
According to the study, cyclists feel numb in the penis, but this percentage may decrease if the person driving his bike in the situation standing a passenger for a moment of time estimated at about 20 percent of the ride time ..
The authors of the study said they will focus in the coming period on the exploration of cases of male genitalia as a result of cycling to determine whether this phenomenon is an indicator of greater problems in sexual health.
