Testicular cancer! - Health Warning! Please read!!

in #health8 years ago (edited)

I was diagnosed with testicular cancer 5 years ago. I am now fully in remission. I am taking this opportunity to tell all men to check their balls. Even if it's just once a week, once a month or once every so often.
Testicular cancer, in most cases, is so slow growing and the formation of the classic, hard, lump happens in the early stages. If caught at this point it is almost entirely curable. However, the only way to catch it at this stage is through self-examination. Any change in size, shape, texture or the appearance of a hard, stone like lump is something that should be checked immediately. With my personal experience I visited my GP four times before he sent me for an ultrasound. Without this I would not have been diagnosed, my cancer would have metastasised and I would have died. Stage 1 is almost 99% cure rate with no chemical care. The final stages see's mortality well above 60% with high radio and chemo. There is no reason to find yourself in this latter stage.
Check your f***ing balls

Thank you for the timely reminder ndb88 and I’m glad that things are working out for you. So many men die needlessly from this condition when all it takes is a little self awareness. Thanks again.

No problems. If I was a more timid twenty four year old at the time I wouldn't have pushed for the scan. I also wouldn't be here.

Good point. Maybe more needs to be done to push men of any age to check more regularly. Bit like the breast screening program here in the UK that has caught many women in the early stages of breast cancer and hence saved many lives.

Nice post @ndb88, postrate cancer has been a trending problem recently especially among men above age 40. It's something all men should be aware and conscious of. Thank God for the early detection
