DIFFERENCES BETWEEN: SPRAIN, FISSURE, FRACTURE AND LUXATION

in #health7 years ago

As we all know, throughout our lives we are exposed to suffer any type of accident; that does not necessarily have to be fatal. But on the contrary, it can lead to a "minor" INJURY: falls, blows, bad movements, slips, etc.

Given the variety of circumstances in which an injury can occur, it is to be expected that there are several types of injury.
So, a good diagnosis is fundamental; because according to the case there are different types of treatments that applied in the correct way, will contribute to the rapid improvement. But if on the contrary, a "bad" technique is applied (product of a bad diagnosis) this will very likely end up making the situation worse.

Although the doctor is in charge of making our diagnosis, that does not make us aliens to the situation. "Nobody will value your body and your life more, than yourself". It is important to be aware of every ailment we may experience, at any given time.
That's why today I want to share with the Steemit community: How we can identify between a SPRAIN, FISSURE, FRACTURE, AND LUXATION.

FRACTURE

The interruption of continuity in the normal structure of the bone is called a fracture.

Practically: Imagine that we grabbed a thin twig of wood at both ends, and split it in half; that "division" that we cause in the twig, is precisely what happens to a bone when it fractures.

Many times, fractures are accompanied by trauma and / or alterations in the areas of neurovascular and soft tissue that are around.

Types of fracture:

  • Simple:

It is the most common type of fracture. It happens when the bone breaks, without going out through the muscles and the skin.

Simple ankle fracture

  • Oblique:

In this type of fracture, it can be observed that the edge of the divided bone forms an oblique line "/".

Oblique fracture, tibia
.

  • Spiral:

This type of fracture can get confused (with the naked eye) with an oblique type. However, the spiral fracture, as the name implies, occurs around the bone.

Spiral fracture, femur.
.

  • Comminuted:

This name is assigned to the fracture consisting of the "fragmentation" of the bone; it means, when the bone breaks into several pieces.

Comminuted Humerus fracture.
.

  • Open:

Normally it is the product of quite strong traumas.
It happens when the bone breaks and pierces the tissue that surrounds it; being exposed. That is to say; the bone can be seen outside the skin.

FISSURE

As the name implies, a thin and elongated "opening" in a bone body is called a fissure. This differs from the fracture, because the separation between the edges of the bone is very small, or incomplete.
It could be said that it is a crack that occurs as a result of minor trauma (blows or excessive pressures). Although it can occur in any bone structure; where it occurs most often is in flat bones, and in short bones.

SPRAIN

Sprain is an hyperextension or rupture occurred in the ligaments that protect, or are around an articulation. Therefore when this happens, pain and inflammation occurs in this area.

The ligaments are bands of fibrous tissue, strong, and flexible that are responsible for connecting the bones through the articulations. They are also responsible for allowing mobility, so that each bone is able to make movement keeping in place; that is, it gives support to the bone structure, to prevent dislocations.

Note that it is NOT an injury that affects, or occurs directly in the bone.

Types of sprain:

  • 1st Degree Sprain: Produced when there is abrupt hyperextension or distention of the ligament, without breaking.
  • 2nd Degree Sprain: Occurs when in addition to distention, there is partial rupture of the ligament.
  • 3rd Degree Sprain: This is the most serious type, since it involves the rupture of the ligamentous tissue in its entirety.

Cruciate ligament. Knee

LUXATION

A luxation, or also known as "dislocation," occurs when a bone leaves its joint; that is, it occurs when two bones separate, without this necessarily implying the breakage of the bone structure. Most of the time it is the product of very strong traumas, and like all the injuries described above, it is TOO PAINFUL.

Luxation / Dislocation, elbow

I HOPE, HAVE CLARIFIED MANY DOUBTS, AND I ALSO HOPE THAT THIS PUBLICATION CONTRIBUTE TO ALL THE COMMUNITY TO BE AWARE OF WHAT COULD BE HAPPENING TO OUR BODY, AT SPECIFIC MOMENTS.

IN THE NEXT ENTRY, I WILL BE TALKING ABOUT THE MOST CONVENIENT TREATMENTS ACCORDING TO THE TYPE OF INJURY.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to leave it in the comments.
For me it is a pleasure, to be able to serve you.

Foot arch tape can be used to support the arch and forefoot areas. Injuries to the foot and toes that can be treated with https://dunbarmedical.com/product-category/taping-wrapping-padding/athletic-tape/ adhesive tape include sprains, strains, and overstrain injuries. My doctor explained to me that the Circle Vault Technique is used to support the longitudinal arch of the foot gently. It is most commonly used for sprains in the longitudinal arch and problems with the gender and flat foot. And X-tape for longitudinal support of the foot and mild to the moderate foot arch. This method is helpful in treating foot arch deformities, plantar fasciitis, and problems with hollow and flat feet;
