Alzheimer - The most common Grannies Sickness

in #health7 years ago

During my grandfather's last moment, I got to do an intensive research about alzheimer's which is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. It's symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. Alzheimer's is actually the most common form of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60 to 80 percent of dementia cases. It is believed that alzheimer's has no current cure but treatments for symptoms are available and research continues. Although current Alzheimer's treatments cannot stop Alzheimer's from progressing, they can temporarily slow the worsening of dementia symptoms and improve quality of life for those with Alzheimer's and their caregivers. Today, there is a worldwide effort under way to find better ways to treat the disease, delay its onset, and prevent it from developing.

ITS CAUSES AND FACTOR
Like all types of dementia, Alzheimer's is caused by brain cell death. It is a neurodegenerative disease, which means there is progressive brain cell death that happens over time.

In a person with Alzheimer's, the tissue has fewer and fewer nerve cells and connections.

Autopsies have shown that the nerve tissue in the brain of a person with Alzheimer's has tiny deposits, known as plaques and tangles, that build up on the tissue.

The plaques are found between the dying brain cells, and they are made from a protein known as beta-amyloid.

  • aging
  • a family history of Alzheimer's
  • carrying certain genes

SYMPTOMS OF ALZHEIMER DISEASE
Everyone has episodes of forgetfulness from time to time. But people with Alzheimer’s disease display certain ongoing behaviors and symptoms that worsen over time. These can include:

  • memory loss affecting your daily activities, such as your ability to keep appointments
  • trouble with familiar tasks, such as using a microwave
  • difficulties with problem-solving
  • trouble with speech or writing
  • becoming disoriented about times or places
  • decreased judgment
  • decreased personal hygiene
  • mood and personality changes
  • withdrawal from friends, family, and community
Symptoms change according to the stage of the disease.

TREATMENT
There is no known cure for Alzheimer's. The death of brain cells cannot be reversed.

However, there are therapeutic interventions that can make it easier for people to live with the disease.

According to the Alzheimer's Association, the following are important elements of dementia care:

  • effective management of any conditions occurring alongside the Alzheimer's
  • activities and day-care programs
  • involvement of support groups and services

DRUG THERAPY
No drugs are available for Alzheimer's disease, but some options may reduce the symptoms and help improve quality of life.

There is drugs specifically prescribed for Alzheimer's disease in some people these can help significantly but are not a cure. Many people suffer from a mixture of Alzheimers and vascular dementia. My mother takes aspirin for vascular dementia, and she takes Reminyl for the alzheimers.
