BUTEYKO Method - CONTROL PAUSE BREATHING TEST
The method takes its name from Ukrainian doctor Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko, who first formulated its principles during the 1950s.
One of his techniques is a test to measure your depth of breathing and consequent retention of carbon dioxide, resultant oxygenation and health. He named it the "Control Pause" breathing test. This acts as a natural peak flow meter and is far more useful.
try this for yourself
Sitting down, relax, close your mouth and breathe normally in and out through the nose for 2 or 3 minutes.
After a normal out breath, gently close your nose with your thumb+forefinger, glance at a clock to keep time or start your stop watch.
When you feel the First need to breathe, release the nose and take a breath in through the nose, keeping the mouth closed at this point.
Note the number of seconds that have passed before breathing in.
The number of seconds that have passed is your Control Pause. If you managed:
less than 10 seconds... you have health problems
less than 25 seconds... your health needs attention
30-40 is satisfactory
60+ seconds is excellent
ASTHMA and The 4-7-8 breathing technique
- Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound.
- Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a mental count of four.
- Hold your breath for a count of seven.

HOW YOU SHOULD BREATH...
Breathe through the nose, in and out through the nose.
Breathe with the diaphragm, in through your nose, all the way down to your belly.
Breathe relaxed... Breathe rhytmically... Breathe silently.
Stop mouth breathing.
Stop overbreathing.
Learn to bring your breathing volume toward normal.
You breathe to remove excess CO2
Your breathing volume should be normal to maintain ideal CO2 levels in your lungs. Lack of CO2 constricts your blood vessels and detrimentally affects your heart function
The heavier you breathe, the less oxygen is delivered throughout your body due to lack of carbon dioxide, which causes your blood vessels to constrict
Processed foods, which tend to acidify your blood in an attempt to maintain normal pH, will make you breathe heavier. This is because one of the roles of carbon dioxide, which is in your blood, is to regulate pH
CORRECT HYPERVENTILATION
Try belly-breathing, which fills your lungs fully, slows your breathing rate, and helps you relax.
Place one hand on your belly just below the ribs. Place the other hand on your chest. ...
Take a deep breath through your nose. ...
As you exhale through pursed lips, feel your hand go down. ...
Repeat these steps 3 to 10 times.
