How to Yoga - OM
Good day, Steemians!
"[A]ll the voices, all the goals, all the yearnings, all the sorrows, all the pleasures, all the good and evil, all of them together was the world. All of them together was the stream of events, the music of life...then the great song of a thousand voices consisted of one word: Om - perfection." -- from Siddhartha by Herman Hesse
Nada yoga is the yoga of sound.
In the beginning was the word,
and according to sages from the ages,
the word was OM.
Pronounced A - U - M, it represents the trinity
A: the first syllable for creation
U: the second syllable for maintenance
M: the third syllable for destruction of the universe
The silence it fades into is part of the OM too.
Sanskrit OM
Every letter in the Sanskrit alphabet is a "little mother".
They hold particular harmonic resonances
that, when spoken,
make the physical material of your body
vibrate at a particular frequency
that feels real. nice.
OM is a conscious vibration.
Sound is a place where energy becomes form,
thus the power of the Word is magnificent.
Invoking OM is a guide to return to oneness
unity of mind, body, soul.
OM can stand alone as its own mantra,
and it opens many others.
Reciting mantras, aloud or internally,
purposefully focuses sound energy.
Here's a mantra to say when you want to remove obstacles:
Om Gum Ganapataye Namaha
And here's one to invoke the celestial healer:
Om Sri Denvantre Namaha
And here's a super duper mantra called the Moola Mantra to use for all occasions:
OM Sat Chit Ananda Parabrahma
Purushothama Paramahtma
Sri Bhagavathi Sametha
Sri Bhagavathe Namaha
OM
Or in Tibetan, here's one that embodies the Buddha's entire teachings to send love and compassion to all sentient beings:
Om Mani Padme Hum
Tibetan OM
Passionately he wished to know nothing about himself anymore, to have rest, to be dead. If there only was a lightning-bolt to strike him dead! If there only was a tiger a devour him! If there only was a wine, a poison which would numb his senses, bring him forgetfulness and sleep, and no awakening from that! Was there still any kind of filth, he had not soiled himself with, a sin or foolish act he had not committed, a dreariness of the soul he had not brought upon himself?
...
Then, out of remote areas of his soul, out of past times of his now weary life, a sound stirred up. It was a word, a syllable, which he, without thinking, with a slurred voice, spoke to himself, the old word which is the beginning and the end of all prayers of the Brahmans, the holy "Om", which roughly means "that what is perfect" or "the
completion". And in the moment when the sound of "Om" touched Siddhartha's ear, his dormant spirit suddenly woke up and realized the foolishness of his actions. -- from Siddhartha by Herman Hesse
