Renal Tubular Transport #22. S1 Segment, Proximal Tubule. Organic Cation Transport 1
The original post was placed in HIVE. Click here to find it.
This post is showing the transport of organic cations.
In the basolateral membrane:
- The Na/K ATPase, which brings 2 potassium ions into the cell and releases 3 sodium ions into the interstitial space.
- The transporters that bring the organic anions into the interstitial space, OCT2 and OCT3
In the apical membrane:
- The MDR1 pump which is an ATPase and releases the organic cation into the filtrate.
- OCTN1 and 2, which exchange organic cations at the level of the apical membrane.
- MATE1, which exchanges an organic cation for a proton, which is regenerated by the activity of NHE3
