I know in countries like South Korea, Japan, and China, having dark skin is seen as bad because it shows that you're "poor". Anyone tanned in those countries are seen as hard laborers and are considered "poor". That archaic mindset still exists thanks to the old people keeping it alive.

I'll never forget teaching some South Korean teenagers and some of them talked about how they felt they were ugly because they didn't have western features. It made me sad to see how poisoned their minds were thanks to the adverts that promote western standard beauty.

To be fair, we as humans, are attracted to things that look pretty. It's human nature and that will never EVER change. To go to the extremes to be something you are not and never will be is something I don't agree with. If I wanted to look better physically, i'd go to the gym, eat right, and wear right clothing.
