Ive wondered this for a long time, and I have researched to find whatever I can about vitamins. I can't remember who said it, but some fella mentioned the fact that although they may be vitamins, they are vitamins taken from something and processed. Our bodies are adapted to absorb the natural form of the vitamins, not a condensed pill form. Nature always wins. If we stop fighting nature, and work with it, not against it, then we can all be much healthier.

Exactly. Food is complex and contains many different components. Vitamins assume that one component is responsible for all of its benefits. But in reality, we cannot replicate the effects of foods in just one pill form. There are many things that we are missing that we don't know about.
