Being exposed to the environment makes the eye susceptible to injuries, infections, irrigations and damages that can lead to visual impairment or total loss of sight. Also, engaging in dangerous activities and eating unhealthy diets pose significant threats to the eyes.
The eye is a very delicate organ; one which requires extreme care and attention. But because many take it for granted what the visually impaired and the blind go through, they do not maintain, over time the car breaks down and eventually parks up. That’s exactly the way the eyes are, nut unlike the car whose parts are always spared, the eyes when it is damaged cannot be replaced. You have to realize that the reason you are in a proper school today and not in a special facility for the blind or visually impaired is because your eyes are still properly. That is the reason you can read, play, move about easily, and do other things that a good sense of vision makes possible. It is important therefore to keep it that way.
The eye needs the following measures of care and maintenance:
• Clean your hands and your contact lenses properly. Wash your hand thoroughly before putting in or taking out your contact lenses.
• Wear protective eye wear. The protective eye wear like safety glasses, goggles, eye guards should be worn when playing sports or doing activities around home.

• Quit smoking or never start. Smoking is bad for your eyes and it increases the risk of developing age related macular degeneration, cataract, and optic nerve damage, all of which can lead to blindness.

• Wear your sunshades; sun glasses and shades protect your eyes from the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
• Give your eyes a rest; long time focus on an object such as phone or computer can cause fatigue. It is important to lessen the stain and sleep well.
• Have a comprehensive dilated eye examination: this will be done by an eye care professional by placing drops in your eyes to dilute or widen the pupil to allow more light to enter and trace possible areas or the eye with the tendency of future damage and treat such areas for a healthy eye sight.

• Eat right to protect your sight: Diets rich in fruits and vegetables especially, dark leafy greens are important for keeping your eyes healthy. Research has also shown there are eye health benefits from eating fish high in omega 3 fatty acids.
• Maintain a healthy weight: being overweight increases your risk of developing diabetes and other systemic conditions which can lead to vision loss, such as diabetic eye disease or glaucoma.

Absolutely true! @solomonwise
The eyes are irreplaceable,so they should be cared for. Some people, especially the youths make use of phones and it's likes in the dark, which is very bad for the eye. When using the fone it's advisable to reduce the brightness so it won't affect the eyes.
