RE: Belgium wants to arrest parents who put their kids on Vegan diets

in #health6 years ago

I've been vegan about 3 years. I'm in far better health now than then. My allergies have almost cleared up and I have lost weight. I work out in the gym and have not lost any strength. Other vegans I know appear to be dong pretty well as well. There are so many vegan options and alternatives, staying healthy shouldn't be a problem.

In regards to children, I have not looked into any research which compares children on vegan diets to children not on it. I will definitely put it on my list of things to do.

Good for you, glad you are doing well.

What different vegan options are there?

IMO, although I haven't researched it, there's a lot less options on a Vegan diet.

I'm not a heavy meat eater, but I do eat chicken.

If I could eat fish, I would, but all of our fish now is poisonous in one way or another which is terrible.

My digestion can't tolerate beans & even some lentils, although it depends on where I get them from.

I won't eat tofu anymore & I used to love tofu (only certain brands.)

LMK what you find out about the kids : )

There are lots of new vegan products available.

Coconut is very flexible. Jackfruit makes a great substitute for pork. Nuts and legumes are good for protein. Peas are surprisingly quite flexible as well. Cabbage is pretty good too but has less protein.

I would recommend limiting the amount of vegan proccessed foods and possibly foods with a lot of fibre if your body can't handle it.

A vegan diet still has a fraction of the options of other diets but once you have found the foods that work for you, it is not too difficult to maintain. Also, more restaurants cater for vegans than just a few years ago.

Sorry for the delay. I kept forgetting you responded here.

First I wanted to post this article that someone dug up in response to this same post in my other MeWe group.

As for my body not being able to handle things, it's the nuts & legumes it can't handle & I'm not a fruit eater generally. I feel sick after I eat fruit.

I also like peas only if they are of quality & cooked properly, otherwise, my body doesn't like them either.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Have a good one!
