Some recipes of slushies
Hello guys,
Today I just want to talk to you about a fresh drink that could totally help you during this terribly hot weather: slushies!
Everyone knows the very sweet version of slushies (like with a Coke flavor, a soda flavor, or just with an aroma, but I'm going to show you that some healthier slushies exist too.
For those who don't know, a slushie is a flavored freezing food. Frozen uncarbonated beverages are made by freezing a non-carbonated juice or other liquid. The presence of sugar is generally essential for this recipe, because it acts as an antifreeze in this drink. Often marketed in the street and served in a tumbler, it is consumed generally by means of a straw. The granite machine rotates the mixture at a constant speed so that the sugar and water molecules bond together before the water freeze. In this way, a soft and frozen mixture is formed. But for fruit recipes, sugar is not indispensable and can be easily replaced by honey or anything else, to your taste. A great part of this process is how you can be creative by adding anything you want once you've chosen your fruits for your base. You can just add a few herbs for an original taste, some honey to sweeten, or a bit of citrus to give it a more acide side! I'm sure you can think of countless other combinations, but I give you one of my favorite recipe at the end of this article.
The general recipe is very simple: 1 1/2 to 2 cups of chopped fresh fruits, 1 cup of ice (or more, at your taste), 1/4 cup of sparkling water, and then you add some other ingredients to flavor it to your taste. You need to have a high-powered blender, or at least a blender strong enough to crush ice.
Wash and chop the fruit: Wash the fruit and cut it into manageable pieces. Remove any pits. Personnaly I prefer them without any peels, so you have less bits in your drink.
Put the ingredients in a blender: Combine the chopped fruit with 1 cup of ice and the sparkling water in a your blender. If you're using any flavoring extras,it is the right time to put them in!
Blend on high until the mixture is the consistency of a slushie: Blend on high speed until the ice is completely crushed and the fruit is blended. It can take a lot of time for the ice to crush correctly. Check the texture and add more ice or more fruit as needed to reach the consistency that you want. If the type of fruit you're using has more water in it, you might need less ice.
Your slushie is good to drink right away!
Slushies recipes are easy to find all over the Internet, and you can easily make your creativity works and find all the combinations you will like. I give you some of my favorites:
- Watermelon and lime
- Watermelon and basil
- Strawberry and basil
- Strawberry and kiwi
- Mango, pineapple and honey
- Cherry and raspberry
As you can see this is a really easy to create new slushies, and it is also easy to make this with fruits you have at home.
You can also make great frozen version of your favorite cocktails, like for this watermelon and rum version;
- 3 cups of cubes of watermelon without pips
- 4 oz of white rum
- 2 oz of triple Dry
- 1/2 cup of orange juice or more to the taste
- 1 tbsp of freshly grated ginger
- The juice of a lime
- Cane syrup, honey or sugar to the taste.
- Some small leaves of basil
Cover a big plate with bake parchment and put down the cubes of watermelon there. You can refrigerate them for a minimum of two hours.
Put all the ingredients in a mixer and crush until the consistency of a granité. Add some orange juice or the water. Pour it into glasses and serve immediately with some small leaves of basil and a slice of lime.
If you have too much of your slush, do not hesitate to put them into your ice tray and into the freezer: next time you want a slush, you just have to put them in the blender again and there you go!
