MIX IT WITH FAITH
“For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” (Hebrews 4:2 KJV)
What makes one woman’s soup more delicious than the other is the one additional condiment that the former must have added and mixed in her soup. Such that when you taste both soups, you will know that there is a subtle difference somewhere in the taste. So it is in the Christian faith; what makes one believer different from the other is not just that they all heard the word of God, but it is ‘how’ they heard the word; more about what they did after hearing the word of God. We see that those who profit from the word of God are those who mix it with faith.
To mix the word of God with faith in your heart is to believe completely that what you have heard or read is actually God’s word. When you hear the word of God and you take it as God speaking to you, and you see it as God giving you an instruction directly, then you are mixing the word with faith. You get into the problem of unbelief when you make it look as though it was man who was talking to you, or you relate with the spoken word as if it were just a man’s idea and intention.
When the above is true of you, then you will not be able to take the word seriously. As such, the needed action or work will be lacking, and faith without works or action is dead. Take the word of God as word from God directly, and add action to it, and you would have successfully mixed it with faith.
