Hearthstones New Expansion, Witchwood! What We Know So Far.
The Hearthstone team has officially announced their newest upcoming expansion named Witchwood which will feature 135 new cards, a new dungeon run update called "Monster Hunt" featuring 4 new unique heroes and a new deck building "odd and even" mechanic.
Expansion Trailer
New Mechanic: Start of Game, Odd or Even
New Keyword: Echo
This expansion will also be introducing 2 new keywords, one of them being "Echo". Echo cards can be played multiple times on the turn you play them, adding a temporary copy each time you play it that will disappear at the end of your turn. This allows for one card to out value other cards making it great for top decking or in arena games.
New Keyword: Rush
The second keyword introduced in this expansion is "Rush". Much like the Shadowverse version of Rush, minions with rush can attack the turn they are played, however they cannot target the enemy hero on that turn. This new keyword allows for a larger diversity of cards with a "semi charge" effect giving the dev team to have more creative room.
Other Card Reveals
Alongside the cards being revealed showing the new mechanics, 2 other cards have been revealed showing new mechanics but no specific "Keywords" so I have placed them here. Azalina Soulthief is a new legendary with the unique power of replacing your own hand with your opponents, this allows for either aggro decks to reload their hand with ease (which may be too strong) or for control decks to search for other answers than what they already possess. An interesting card for sure.
Pumpkin peasant is a less flashy card but still interesting, the changing stats allows for a druid like "Choose one" option albeit a little weaker having to wait for a turn. The stats allow for you to pick either a more aggressive stat like or a more defensive trading orientated stat line, this card has high versatility for sure and is possibly an interesting arena pick.
New Shaman Hero Card Confirmed
In the "Hearthstone: Announcing The Witchwood" video a new hero card is shown of a character named "Hagatha" which has been confirmed to be a Shaman hero by Ben Brode in his tweet replying to a question
Some theories for why only shaman gets a new hero hard proposes that due to the rotation removing Doppleganster and other strong evolve synergy cards from the standard set, the Shaman Deathknight has become too weak and is getting Hagatha as a replacement.
Hearthstone: The Witchwood is expected to be relased mid April 2018 and comes along with a preorder bonus of 20 extra packs on top of what the old preorders come with. What do you think of the new expansion and will you be preordering it?
