Stranded polar bears, liquefying icy masses, dried-out waterways and flooding on a horrendous scale - these were the notorious pictures of 2007. So who is most ready to stop this pulverization to our reality? A Guardian board, taking designations from key natural figures, met to order a rundown of our definitive green saints

A year ago finished with the disjointed picture of 10,000 government officials, agents, activists and researchers from 190 nations producing tremendous amounts of nursery gasses as they flew home from Bali gripping the no frills of a worldwide concurrence on environmental change. The assertion was to continue conversing with endeavor to achieve an arrangement by 2010. It was a discretionary triumph, accomplished after columns and high dramatizations, yet it leaves all countries a relentless slope to climb. There is no concession to what discharge slices should be made by when or by whom, and the US is still profoundly hesitant to do anything. It is a guide without any signposts.

Some were idealistic that a begin had been made; some said that the world's biological circumstance was in a significantly more dangerous state than had been thought. The notorious pictures of 2007 - polar bears stranded, ice sheets liquefying in the Himalayas, woodlands descending all finished Africa and destroying surges and dry spells from Bangladesh to Ghana - might be as nothing to what will happen if individuals don't make quick move.

In any case, who are the general population who can achieve change, the pioneers thinking of radical arrangements? We can alter our ways of life, however that will never be sufficient. Who are the legislators most ready to constrain society and industry to do things any other way? Where are the green shoots that will get us out of the worldwide environmental chaos?
