South Asian people have been using herbal medicine for more than 5,000 years, with a tradition from the Mesopotamia period of the Indus Valley civilization. One can not possibly discuss the oldest and one of the most influential system of medicine without mentioning Ayurveda which was born here and can be retraced back to Rigveda and Atharvaveda. Ayurveda is the science of life which acted on the principle that there should always be balance between human body, human mind and the nature and the important component of the system was herbal treatment.
