Herbal highs: Lotus plants
There are many kinds of water lotus and lily flowers but we will stick to the main 2 kinds of flowers, pink and the well known sacred blue lotus. It was famously known that the queen of Egypt Cleopatra’s favourite plants were marijuana and blue lotus. She would prepare it with red wine and drink it just like I have, and will describe, later in this article.
Pink lotus is prepared in the same way and has been used for religious and recreational reasons for thousands of years.
There are all kinds of lotus/Lily flowers from white to red and purple, and almost every colour in between. Most contain similar properties and have also been used worldwide for the same reasons.
A few countries have tried to outlaw pink lotus because it was booming in popularity, but all the research proved if anything, it has good properties for the body, and none of this plant’s compounds are dangerous at all.
Although most water lotus or lily plants/flowers have the same properties, some have higher or lower amounts of certain compounds.
The Sacred Blue Lotus Flower
The blue lotus has much more of a social and energetic feeling to it compared to the other water Lilies. People online have compared it to ecstasy when used with wine or vodka, but I think that’s because they have little else to compare it to.
How I prepare blue and pink lotus and
Ingredients
- Half or a whole ounce of blue lotus
- One or two coffee mugs of red wine
- Cloth or a strainer
- Plastic bottle (coke, spite or milk, whatever you have on hand)
- elastic bands
- Jar (if needed)
First I filled a milk bottle with loose lotus and poured the wine until it covered the plant material by an inch or so, then left it in the fridge, shaking it a few times a day for 3 nights. (The longer you leave it the stronger it will be)
After 3 days, use the plastic bands to tie a cloth around the top of the bottle and pour the lotus and wine into a jar. EASY 😉
Effects
- dopamine release
- sociable
- feelings of joy or happiness
- slight visuals (colours look brighter)
- slight to moderate energy while drinking
Pink lotus flower
Effects
- Dopamine release
- feelings of joy or happiness
- slight visuals (colours look brighter)
- relaxation
The pink lotus can be prepared in the same way as the blue lotus with similar effects but with more of the relaxation, and possible couch lock at higher doses.
The best thing, other than the great effects, is knowing that ancient societies from around the world have used these plants in rituals and other ancient gatherings for thousands of years. I like to think about that connection while feeling the effects of these plants. 🙏
Lotus and lily plants are said to change its chemical structure when mixed with alcohol, so make sure to use wine or vodka and not tea’s or extracts. You can smoke or vape lotus which I do when using lotus/alcohol and it feels like you get extra effects, but smoking it won’t get you high, maybe a little relaxed 😎
Certain people will tell me otherwise but I’ve only gotten great effects while mixed with wine.
Anyway this is a great plant and is something everyone should try, especially wine lovers.
Every wine drinker I’ve known loves this plant. 🍷
I’m not to much of a drinker and don’t like red wine but it’s worth the taste for the great happy feelings 😁
