Hiking in Ukrainian Carpathians Part 2

in #hiking7 years ago (edited)

In my previous post I shared some info and pictures considering Syvulia mountain. In Part 2 I would like to talk about other must see locations in Ukrainian Carpathians.
Have you ever seen or swum in a lake which came to us from the Ice Age? Well, you can do this in lake Rosohan which is located near village Osmoloda, Ivan-Franko region.

You can see the lake while climbing Syvulia mountain. The water is crystal clear and very cold, but the experience of swimming in the Ice Age lake is worth it. The gets smaller in summer.

Another great peak to climb is called Mountain Pip Ivan.

\It is located 2018 meters above sea level. Every part of the observatory was brought by people.

Hiking the peak where the White Elephant is located is not an easy thing. Harsh wind along with sudden weather changes will exhaust you, so back up with warm clothes, water and food. I would not recommend going there with kids.
You will see pine trees aged 400 years on your route.

You can also meet some shepherds there.

Usually they live there and make their famous and delicious cheese Budz. It is made of lamb milk.

If you want to see some WW I trenches, definitely go climb mountain Smotrych.

Many shells, reels of barbed wire - all stayed there since World War I.

Soldiers built trenches every where, including the very peak of Smotrych.
