Hip Hop is it DEAD or MISLEAD

in #hiphop7 years ago

Hey guys,

Ok long story short, I love rap and everything about it since I was 12(year 2000). From just getting on the school bus with my Walkman (yes my walkman) and putting on some Andre 3000, Jay-Z, Nas, The LOX, Biggie or even Tupac on....even tho I was East Coast Rider especially back then...that was a big deal to listen to a westcoast rapper. I remember being on that bus and how the rappers would talk about the pain that they went through, the lessons they learned and how that got them to where they are now. All while being like most of us poor people...creatives and artists. I was blown away that these people would write down their inner feelings. These hardcore men from hardcore places and I could relate while sitting on a school bus living in New York and being a Foster Child in poverty ready to take on the world. They gave me a desire to do more, to kick ass and take names, and don't be a soft target and learn how to dance lol.

So why do I dare even talk about rap in a negative light that I and so many people love and appreciate and how this music transcends through the last 30 years? Because s*** needs to stop! We went from Warriors that were living in poverty that had a little bit of soul and rhythm and we took it into a new place. This new rap is where you have to come up with a dance, wear funky clothes like in the 80s, talk about doing drugs...and Oh yeah they are all businessman haha. But when I look at the new artist's... the rhymes are bland, there's no double entendre, there's no deep meaning... it's just a bunch of young men confused by materialistic s*** and are doing way too many drugs to ever be an entrepreneur. I feel that rap was building Warriors in the 80s and 90s and all the way through its golden age of the early 2000s but now it's so sad to see young people listen to this music and get influenced by BS drugs and a false identity of being rich is to have things. In reality if you would spend your money on expensive stuff you can't actually ever build your brand to be a huge success in the music industry like Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Jay-Z and so forth. Now we have new rap music on the rise like little yachty, Kodak Black, 21 savage, the Migos and other artists that are not developed lyrically but are dropping music left and right and are influencing the younger crowd, pissing off the fans and really pissing off the old people. I wanted to write this article for maybe somebody that listens to new rap and might want to check out the older stuff to see where the artist they listen to got inspired. Cause not every rap back in the day was about fun,a dance and a good time…thats not what this music is meant to be all about. It was meant for you and I to get a needed boost in our grit, willpower, and over all hustle to do better all while bobbing our head to funky beats. I just wanted to remind the youngins out there that the music you're listening to is great and will forever be great and it has surpassed its golden age and has a bright future!

I don't think Hip-hop dead! I think it's lost and there's a new genre of music coming out of rap and I am all good for it, but lets keep the lyrical new artists and the great rappers in rap and move the singer/rapper to its own area of music.

This is just another story of a Hip-Hop/Rap fan.
