So after Humayun tomb our next destination was another place very near from here..JAMA MASJID...

It was one of the largest mosque in India.
It was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.
Its construction started in 1650 and finished in 1656.
It was one of the last monuments of mughal dynesty.

Its had 3 great gates and 4 towers...

The mosque is built on a red sandstone porch, which is about 30 feet (9.1 m) from ground level and spreads over 1200 square metre.
The northern gate has 39 steps and the southern side has 33 steps.
Eastern gate was for rulers ..it has 35 steps..

The courtyard can accommodate 25,000 worshippers and occupies 408 square feet.The mosque is about 261 feet (80 m) long and 90 feet (27 m) wide.

The mosque was attacked two times in 2006 and 2010...which caused heavy distruction to its structure but it was repaired later.

It is surrounded by garden.

Well camera was not allowed inside the building so not much pics of inside..but it was a monumental building having religious importance till now.

Concept of such a huge building on such high platform...in such crowded place in itself is a crazy thought...i guess
